Martha Mellish & Absolute
New Perth Farms, an established breeder of Dutch warmblood horses emphasizing dressage breeding lines, continues to breed outstanding dressage and jumping horses.
Ken and Teresa Mellish, founders & owners of New Perth Farms, credit their daughter Martha who has successfully shown to the young rider level in dressage, for peaking their interest in warmbloods; they credit their success to date to following their stated goal: to breed quality warmblood horses.
And so, their warmblood journey began in 2002 by importing from the Netherlands six weanlings which became their foundation stock and from which they are now producing quality dressage and sport horses.
Ken Mellish emphasizes, "we selected weanlings from strong mare lines by stallions of international quality, always keeping rideability at the top of our list … fortunately we were able to find fillies sired by such outstanding stallions as Jazz, Welt Hit II, Idocus, Floristan and Quattro" …
Subsequently in 2003 and 2004, New Perth Farms imported twelve more weanlings including four colts (one by Quattro). The fillies selected were once again chosen on the basis of superior breeding lines featuring such sires as Jet Set, Gribaldi, Cocktail, Fairplay, Timeless, Burrgraaf, and Tango. During all of the trips to the Netherlans, New Perth Farms relied on the advice of Team Nijhof and Quality Horses both experienced stallion owners who located superior young stock and provided valuable insight. During their last trip to the Netherlands in 2004, New Perth Farms sought out and examined potential sires for their broodmares.
New Perth Farms wonderful success in 2005 was provided by Veganieta and Vuzarma ... Veganieta was awarded first place for conformation in North America at the 2005 keuring held in Rhode Island.Vuzarma another 2002 import was also highly recognized at the 2005 Rhode Island keuring with a first place for jumping in her class.
